There will be several face to face meetings throughout the year (4 in the fall and 4 in the spring). Participants either be currently enrolled in or have successfully passed Sociology 101 at HCC. Participants will take two leadership courses: Habits of a Leader and Leading to Serve through HCC’s Con. Ed. Department and BEACON House, Inc. It is required that participants take another course at HCC or through an HCC dual enrollment class in either world languages, life or physical sciences, or communications.
Throughout the year, participants will receive help on raising funds for their trip by creating individual and group webpages and be involved in several fundraisers. At the end of the year, participants will have a final project review before leaving in summer to complete their project in the community they selected. Once they return, students will be asked to reflect on the experience and redesign their project to be applicable to the local community.
