01 Feb Onward & Upward: New Logo Unveiled Today
Today, we are proud to unveil our brand new logo for Beacon House!
Beacon House’s new logo symbolizes the synergy of the left and right sides of the brain, or the merging of science and the arts, which forms the foundation of STEAM education. Many people have heard of the “left-brain/right-brain” myth, which implies that everyone has a “dominant” side of the brain. Left-brained people are said to be more logical, analytical, and better at math. By contrast, right-brained people are said to be more creative and artistic. Although this myth was debunked many years ago, those of us at BEACON House feel that the symbolism behind it aligns well with our vision of bringing the “whole brain”–and whole families–together through STEAM education.
In the nine months that we’ve been operational, BEACON House has already made great strides towards our goal of making STEAM education and training accessible–and FUN–for students and teachers throughout the Quad-State area. Since our founding in January, we’ve held a wide variety of educational events for children, hosted on-site training and lesson planning for teachers and educators, and partnered with other nonprofits in our region to promote STEAM education. Some of our outstanding partners include Horizon Goodwill Industries, The Arc of Washington County, Martinsburg Public Library, Girls Inc., Hagerstown Church of the Brethren, Girl Scouts of America, Hagerstown – Washington County Chamber of Commerce, and Hagerstown Community College’s program for children and young adults: College for Kids.
We are excited to see what the future holds for BEACON House and thrilled to be able to share our new logo with the world today at the 2017 STEM Festival at Hagerstown Community College. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, and features science exhibits, hands-on activities, and competitions for students in K-12. Admission to the festival is free and refreshments will be available.
Festival attendees who stop by the BEACON House table will receive a free tote bag featuring our new logo. Don’t miss your chance to own the first of the new BEACON House merchandise!
